Hi! I’m an experience designer, strategist, curator, and internet researcher.

I love connecting internet-driven insights to real-world phenomena, facilitating workshops and events, designing user tests, and solving problems related to spatial/systems design.

A RESTFUL SLEEP

Tempurpedic wanted something special to capture the attention of the increasingly inattentive new yorker. After research into their demographics, the experience design team recommended an “interactive digital experience”.

My role was concept and art direction, tech feasibility studies, pricing and coordination with an external A/V team, and implementation of final screen animations.

One of the primary challenges of this project was the sheer size to output - a 19,200px by 4,360px pixel grid. This format exceeded unreal engine exporting capabilities, required bespoke videography (we reached out to one of the cinemotographers for apple’s screensavers) , and exceeded the processing power of typical mac minis (purchased by the client).

I used primarily unreal engine to create a series of interactive scenes and partnered with a touchdesigner expert to test and fine-tune sensor response.

Various proposed techniques to reach the required pixel density

We ended up deciding on a combination of techniques; One technique involved generating real-time scenes in Unreal Engine and stiching them together, and the other involved a multi-camera panoramic cinematography set-up. There was a bit of AI software used to scale up quality even further.

Panoramic footage was filmed using 3, 8K cameras and was later edited, stitched together, and color-graded.

One of my favorite moments in the store was the detail on the ceiling. When customers laid in bed, they’d see different scenes on the ceiling depending on theme of the room.

Actual Ceiling In-Store - Overhead LCD screen, covered in a soft, mesh fabric

At the time, this was seen as one of the most innovative retail stores of the year. It was a true logistic and technical challenge for the team.

Below: I’d often sit in the store next to the screens, while waiting potentially hours for massive files to transfer to the system we’d setup. The beautiful scenes would illuminate other research I was doing at the time.
